Biography

Siobhán is a Welsh-born Australian singer, harpist, and recording artist who has captivated audiences worldwide with her distinctive blend of Celtic and classical music. Her unique vocal style combines an ethereal soprano voice with the haunting beauty of traditional Celtic melodies, creating performances that are both powerful and deeply moving.

Having performed at festivals and concerts throughout Australia from an early age, Siobhán has established an international reputation for her artistry. She has enchanted audiences across the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, the United States, Japan, and Siberia, appearing in solo concerts, festivals, and theatrical productions.

As a recording artist, Siobhán has released four studio albums, including the award-winning Storybook Journey and Entwined. Her voice has also been featured on a number of collaborative recordings, and she was selected as a soloist for the soundtrack of the highly anticipated video game Hollow Knight: Silksong, bringing her distinctive voice to a global gaming audience. Her contributions include the voice of the formidable boss Skarrsinger Karmelita, as well as the haunting solo vocal featured in Lost Verdania.

From the time she could talk, Siobhán was always singing. By the age of four, her naturally sweet tone and remarkable ability to sing in tune had already begun to attract attention. Just a few years later, teachers recognised a maturity in her voice well beyond her age and encouraged her family to nurture her exceptional talent.

At seven, Siobhán joined the Adelaide Girls Choir, where she quickly progressed to performing solo parts in concerts. By the age of nine, she had begun private classical voice lessons, laying the foundation for the vocal technique that would later become her signature style. Music theatre soon followed, with her first production, Brigadoon, at the age of ten, singing in the ladies’ chorus. She also appeared with the State Opera of South Australia in two youth operas, portraying a Gingerbread Girl in Hansel & Gretel and Mozart’s sister, Marianne, in Wolfie.

When she was twelve, Siobhán was awarded a choral scholarship with the adult choir at St Francis Xavier Cathedral in Adelaide. Around the same time, she also received a music scholarship to St Aloysius College, helping to support her continued vocal studies. Alongside her classical voice training – which led to AMEB Grade 6 with High Distinction before commencing university – she also studied piano, achieving AMEB Grade 4.

Throughout her school years, Siobhán enjoyed considerable success in vocal eisteddfods and competitions. At just thirteen, she began presenting classical voice recitals with Recitals Australia, an early indication of the professional career that lay ahead.

Her passion for music continued into tertiary study at Adelaide University’s Elder Conservatorium, where she completed a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Classical Voice (Performance and Pedagogy), providing the strong classical foundation that continues to underpin her performances today.

With Welsh and Irish heritage, it was perhaps inevitable that Siobhán would develop a deep love of Celtic music. She began Irish dancing at the age of five and was often invited to sing favourites such as Danny Boy and Home to the Heartland at dance concerts and community events, discovering an early connection to the music of her ancestry.

At twelve years old, Siobhán performed her first Celtic song on a major stage, singing My Lagan Love at the Catholic Schools Music Festival in the Adelaide Festival Centre. It was a defining moment that marked the beginning of a lifelong musical journey.

Two years later, she made her Celtic festival debut at Port Adelaide’s Celtica Festival. At that time she performed with piano accompaniment, but a chance meeting would soon shape the direction of her career. French singer and harpist Cécile Corbel invited Siobhán to appear as a guest at her Adelaide Fringe concert after discovering her on MySpace. Accompanying Siobhán on two songs, Cécile inspired a fascination with the Celtic harp that would forever change Siobhán’s musical path.

Determined to learn the instrument, Siobhán began studying the harp and, within a year, was accompanying her own singing. (Watch her perform Dark Iniseoghain at Adelaide Festival Theatre). The combination of her classical vocal training, Celtic repertoire, and lyrical harp playing soon became her signature sound, leading to performances at festivals and concerts throughout Australia and, before long, across the world.

While completing her university studies in Classical Voice, Siobhán was already building an international career with her Celtic music, performing at festivals and concerts throughout Australia, interstate, and overseas.

As Siobhán’s reputation continued to grow, so did the opportunities to share her music beyond Australia’s shores. What began as performances at local festivals soon developed into an international career spanning Europe, North America and Asia.

In 2012, Siobhán proudly represented her Welsh heritage by singing the Welsh National Anthem before a packed Sydney stadium at the Australia vs New Zealand Rugby Test Match, with the performance televised live to millions around the world (watch this performance). That same year she appeared as the soprano soloist in legendary composer Ennio Morricone’s Adelaide Festival concert in Elder Park.

International invitations soon followed. In 2013 she travelled to Los Angeles to headline the St David’s Day Festival on Hollywood Boulevard, representing Wales and performing before the Welsh community in California. During the visit she also attended a VIP reception celebrating the unveiling of Richard Burton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where she met acclaimed Welsh actors Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Sheen and Matthew Rhys.

Siobhán’s distinctive blend of Celtic and classical music also attracted the attention of French composer Alan Simon, who discovered her through YouTube while searching for a voice that combined both musical worlds. That discovery led to the role of Yseult in his Celtic rock opera Tristan & Yseult, premiering in France before later taking her to Siberia for the production’s Russian premiere.

Her international performances continued to grow, including appearances for BBC Wales’ Songs of Praise, tours throughout Germany with Alan Simon’s spectacular rock opera Excalibur, performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and an invitation to represent both Australia and Wales at France’s renowned Festival Interceltique de Lorient – the world’s largest Celtic festival. There, her performances earned her recognition as one of Le Figaro‘s “Six New Ambassadors of Celtic Music,” a fitting acknowledgement of an artist whose music bridges cultures and traditions.

A versatile performer, Siobhán is equally at home in small intimate settings as in concert halls, theatres, festivals and large-scale productions. Her classical training, combined with her expressive stage presence, has led to invitations to perform in an extraordinary range of productions throughout her career.

From her early appearances with the State Opera of South Australia and local musical theatre companies to starring roles in internationally acclaimed productions, Siobhán has consistently demonstrated her ability to move effortlessly between musical genres. She excelled as the voice of Yseult in Alan Simon’s Tristan & Yseult, toured Germany in the arena spectacular Excalibur, and appeared as harpist and soprano in the world premiere of Jocelyn Pook’s Memorial during the Adelaide Festival.

Alongside her performing career, Siobhán has established herself as an accomplished recording artist. Her recordings showcase the unique combination of her classical training, Celtic heritage and expressive musicianship, bringing together traditional melodies, original compositions and carefully chosen contemporary works.

To date, she has released four studio albums, including the award-winning Storybook Journey and Entwined. Her music has received acclaim in both Australia and overseas, earning awards for performance, songwriting and production while introducing her distinctive sound to audiences around the world.

Beyond her own albums, Siobhán has collaborated with a variety of artists and composers, lending her unmistakable voice to numerous recording projects. She was selected as a featured soloist for the soundtrack of the highly anticipated video game Hollow Knight: Silksong. In addition to performing the solo vocal for Lost Verdania, Siobhán voices the boss character Skarrsinger Karmelita and also contributes to the game’s choral and atmospheric vocal textures, adding another dimension to the richly immersive soundtrack.
